I was here in NYC working at PS 202 when this act of terrorism occurred. I was teaching 5th graders – preparing them for their life ahead. I saw the second plane hit and both buildings fall. I remember saying to a student that it was smoke rising and he said to me, “No, Ms. Cowan, the buildings fell down.” I remembered with those words that I needed to be strong for my students. However, I was not able to get close to the site until today, ten years later. I know that life is amazing and fragile, that we must live our lives with clarity, intention and love for each other. It is my hope that we learn to communicate our frustrations in a more constructive way not to hurt but to change.
